Where Is The Hop On Point For The Iron Ore Train, Mauritania? The Exact Location... (Iron Ore Train 4)
Intro
I made the mistake, so you don't have to...
Taking the Iron Ore Train is a complicated journey that usually requires a bit of planning (not my thing). If you have made it this far in the Iron Ore series, I am sure you have realized this by now. However, the most complicated and confusing part is where you actually get on the train, so allow me to explain.
The Details
Most people will tell you that the Iron Ore train departs from Zouerat, stops through Choum, and heads off to the coastal town of Nouadhibou. However, that isn't quite the case anymore.
If you see this small station in Zouerat, you are in the wrong location.
The train is loaded in Zouerat, but the actual hop-on location is just outside of a town named Fderik. If you head over to Google Maps, there will be a marker saying Iron Ore Train; hop on point. If you see a km marker at 628, you are in the right location.
Now, the drive from Zouerat to the station outside Fderik is approximately 15-20 minutes. You can grab a taxi from downtown Zouerat and make your way over (not sure how much it is) since there are no shared shuttles for this part of the journey.
As you can see, the train parks up right along the KM 628 marker. This marker displays the distance to Nouadhibou.
I will touch upon more details regarding train times in the next post and the best location to sit on the train. Stay tuned!
Final Thoughts
If you are planning a trip to ride the Iron Ore train in Mauritania, make sure that you know where the location is to hop on. It is not in the town of Zouerat but at a station outside of Fderik. You must take a private taxi to the station, but sometimes, if you say "Iron Ore Train" to the taxi driver, they will take you to the one in Zouerat...
