The Food In Cape Town: Some Of The Best Meat In The World!

Intro

During my three-night stay in Cape Town, most of the activities I indulged in consisted of eating, eating, and more eating. When I say Cape Town has some of the best beef in the world, I truly mean it. Everywhere I went, it was filled with red wine and either a tenderloin or ribeye.

Hussar Grill

In my humble opinion, knowing very little about the food scene in Cape Town, Hussar Grill offers the best steak in Cape Town. This place is nothing short of exceptional and might be some of the best quality* beef I have ever had in my life. There are three locations, but the one by Green Point offers fabulous views out over the ocean.

Let me add that the fries and the bearnaise sauce were also delicious. In addition, not that I brought a bottle of wine, but there is no corkage policy here, which is a huge win!

Rest Of Cape Town

Minus one cheeky Nandos (I know, so cringy), I pretty much ate steak for breakfast, lunch, and dinner during my trip. I checked out a couple of other places near the market by Table Mountain, as well as the docks. The food by the docks wasn't near the quality of Hussar Grill, and the prices were about 1.5, but it was still adequate.

The bone marrow was a nice addition to the side of the steak. Something about the combination of the two makes for a fantastic meal (and wine to make it three).

If you are looking for this restaurant, I am not sure the name, but it is located down by the docks.

There is a common theme occurring: steak and red wine🤣. I checked out a couple of other spots that weren't known for their steak and found the quality to be decent but the cut to be less good. For example, pictured below is a tenderloin cut at a bar. It was still decent, but if you are looking for a prime steak, head to an actual steakhouse (I know, sounds obvious right).

Last up, I visited a true local steakhouse one night to explore the authentic food. This steak was by far the cheapest, coming out to less than 10$. It was good, but there are better.

Final Thoughts

If you happen to be heading to Cape Town, come prepared with a belly ready to drink and eat. The food in this city is exceptional, and more so if you are a steak lover like me. While I found Hussar Grill to be a good bet for a steak, I am sure there are places that are better (it's a good start, though).
