Spirit Airlines Business Class?
Intro
These days, it seems that everyone in their right mind is choosing to go down the business class method or add more seats to each cabin. Even Jetblue will be adding mini mint to their fleet! Well, Spirit Airlines has decided to follow suit... Yes... you read that correctly, Spirit Airlines!
The Details
For those who tend to fly Spirit Airlines a little bit, you will know that most of the planes already have "The Big Front Seat", which is very similar to what one would find flying on American Airlines or United.
So what's the difference? Well, these seats will now include one carry-on item, one checked baggage, snacks, alcoholic and non-alcoholic beverages, and free streaming. This doesn't sound too bad.
If these happen to sell out, or a passenger wants to pay less, Spirit Airlines will be offering a concept where you can pay to have the middle seat blocked. This is much like flying European Business Class.
My Thoughts
In my opinion, this is going to be a great movement for Spirit Airlines after the Jetblue merger fell through. To start with, they already have these seats on most of their planes and charge a relatively modest fee to select them (on most routes). It probably won't cost them much as they don't have to deal with catering; instead, they can just offer what they already offer but for free. Heck, this isn't going to be like Singapore Business Class, but more like Alaska premium with a larger seat.
However, there is always a however. Spirit Airlines is an LCC, which means that it targets people who don't want to pay a premium for the likes of American Airlines or United. If they want to compete, they are either going to have to offer significantly reduced fares or revitalize service and seats.
Final Thoughts
Spirit Airlines will be bringing "Business Class" to their fleet in the coming period. While the timeline isn't announced yet, expect to have free checked bags; free carry-ons, free alcohol, and much much more!
