Royal Jordanian Adds Washington DC Flights

Konrad Tillman

Intro

Royal Jordanian has recently announced that it plans to add its fifth North American destination in the following months. At the moment, Royal Jordanian serves JFK 3x weekly, Chicago 2x weekly, Detroit 2-3x weekly, and Montreal 2-3 weekly. Washington will be a great addition to their fleet, and how they have marketed this route launch is hilarious.

The Details

Beginning March 23rd, 2025, Royal Jordanian plans to launch 2x weekly flights between Amman and Washington DC (IAD). The 5900-odd-mile flight will be operated by one of the carriers, seven Boeing 787-8s featuring 24 business class seats and 246 economy class seats. The service will operate on Sundays and Tuesdays with the following schedule:

RJ282: Amman-Washington departing 11:45 AM arriving 5:45 PM

RJ283: Washington-Amman departing 8:50 PM arriving 3:25 PM (+1 day)

I think the most interesting part of this route is how United used to serve this route with a 787-8 back in 2022. However, due to the heightened tension in the Middle East, UA decided to suspend it, leaving a gap in the market to the capital of the USA.

Marketing

Now, to me, the funniest part is how Royal Jordanian has been marketing this flight through social media. When Trump was running for president back in 2016, Royal Jordanian launched a fair sale to the US, stating, "Travel while you're still allowed to". With Trump returning to power soon, the airline has come back by saying

"He is back! And we are taking you right into the middle of the action

To me, this is absolutely hilarious, and I wish that more airlines would do this. Some might frown upon it.

Final Thoughts

Royal Jordanian, the flag carrier of Jordan, has just announced that it plans to launch a 2x weekly service between Amman and Washington DC as of March 2025. This addition will mark the carrier's fifth North American destination and one that is currently being unserved. Here is to hoping their market strategy works 🥂.
