Review: The Palms Resort Holetown, Barbados

Intro

During my one-night stay in Barbados, I had the opportunity to try out the Palms Resort in Holetown. Located a little bit out of the way of downtown, this resort was one of the cheapest on the island when I checked hotels.com the morning of.

Once arriving at Bridgetown International Airport, it was time to head off on the long drive to the west side of the island, where The Palms Resort is located.

Price+Location

Prices at The Palm Resort are pretty reasonable. For my single night in town, I paid around 130$ USD, including taxes, although prices can be found for lower than 100$ USD per night on certain days. Considering prices in Barbados, this is more than reasonable.

In terms of location, if you know where Sandy Lane is, then you know where The Palms Resort is. The resort is located about an hour away from the international airport and about 30 minutes north of downtown Bridgetown. It's a beautiful area with plenty of options to eat nearby and a 15-minute walk to the beach!

Amenities

Amenities-wise, the resort is pretty bare-bones. There is a decent pool to take a dip in and relaxing lounge chairs around it. Other than that and free Wi-Fi, there isn't any sort of fitness center or a free shuttle to the beach, which is a shame.

Rooms

Rooms-wise, this is where the hotel shines. Considering the hotel costs in Barbados, for the price, this was a very spacious and modernly appointed room. Heck, even the property and the way it was laid out was beautiful.

Upon entering my room, I found a wonderfully appointed living room in front of me. A comfy couch, a dining table, and a small kitchen with all of the necessities were there! Keep in mind that this is a standard room...

Through the doorway lay a beautiful bed that had a Caribbean smell to it (the ocean, ha). The bed was very comfortable, but seeing as the weather is quite warm in the Caribbean, there was no proper comforter provided.

Additonal features to the room included a walk-in wardrobe, a lovely bathroom, and a make-up mirror.

Lastly, a lovely terrace was located by the kitchen overlooking the swimming pool. A beautiful place to wake up and enjoy a coffee.

Service

The hotel hasn't sounded bad at all yet, right? Well, the service aspect is where the service really let me down. Here are some aspects that really stood out to me:

  • Check-out was at 11 am, and by 10:50, they were knocking on my door to get me out of the room.

  • When I said 10 minutes, they let me know that I would be charged an extra 50$ if I didn't leave the room right now.

  • They offered to arrange a taxi to the airport for 1.5x the price of what is on the app, equivalent to Uber. A lot of hotels do this, but they also say they don't take a percentage, which I think is false.

Unfortunately, it wasn't very customer-friendly, which was a huge letdown as this property has lots of potential!

Final Thoughts

Overall, I would say that The Palms Resort in Barbados is a decent place to look at if you are traveling over to Holetown. If you want to be close to downtown, this isn't the place to stay, but if you are looking for something on the lower-end price-wise and with big rooms, this is the spot. Just keep in mind that the service isn't the greatest, by a longshot, to say the least.
