Review: Paragon Premium Lounge Windhoek Airport

Konrad Tillman

Intro

Before my flight to Frankfurt on Discover Airlines, I had the opportunity to visit the only lounge in the airport: Paragon.

Considering I wasn’t even expecting lounge access, it actually turned out not to be that bad. This isn’t a lounge where I would recommend arriving early to the airport, but it’s a decent place to grab a glass of wine and some food. Their fried chicken is delicious, and the hospitality is exceptional.

Location+Access

Once clearing security and immigration, those with access to the lounge should make an immediate left and head to the very far end of Terminal 2 in Windhoek Airport. At the far end, there will be a sign for the Paragon Premium Lounge. It’s pretty hard to miss…

In terms of access, the Paragon Premium Lounge offers plenty of ways to get in. For starters, all passengers ticketed in business class on Discover, South African, and Ethiopian have access. It actually works out quite well as the ET flight leaves in the early afternoon, the SA flight is mid-afternoon, and the Discover flight/flights are in the evening.

Additionally, the 24-hour lounge is also accessible to Priority Pass holders (3-hour maximum stay).

Seating

The Paragon Lounge is a small but slightly dated lounge. Throughout the lounge, there seem to be around 60 seats in total, most of which are single seats. There is a relaxing room with individual chairs, which also features seat power at every seat, a dining room that has more of a sit-down feeling, and finally, a back room with more seats.

I love the power outlet at every seat concept; it reminds me a bit of the Polaris Lounge

The only time it might be difficult to find a seat is in the evening when Discover serves both Frankfurt and Munich. Other than that, it shouldn’t be an issue at all.

Food+Drink

If you happen to show up to the airport a little bit peckish, the Paragon Lounge is a decent place to grab a quick bite. They have many options in the dining room at a buffet, but my absolute favorite dish was the fried chicken. Delicious. The buffet was restocked frequently as the food was disappearing extremely quickly.

On the drink side, I was happy to find a multitude of South African wines and plenty of liquor options (I find it funny how this small lounge in Windhoek has more alcohol options than the MH Flagship Lounge in KL). In conjunction with beautiful wine glasses, this is the perfect opportunity to enjoy South African wine before leaving the region.

Soft drinks, beer, water, and coffee were also available.

Other Amenities

In terms of other amenities, the Paragon Premium Lounge offers toilets, a shower (I believe there was only one), and free wifi for all customers.

Service

The service at the lounge is the aspect that stood out to me the most. Here are the two main examples:

  • There happened to be a man working there who picked up on me, checking for more fried chicken. Unfortunately, they had just run out in the back, and thus no more was going to be coming. He offered to make me a couple of breaded chicken thighs, which turned out to be delicious!

  • Located towards the entrance is a small service desk that is willing to help you with your requests. I ended up trying to learn a little about the lounge, thus speaking to them for around 10 minutes. The staff working there were just very nice people in general.

Final Thoughts

Look, I am not going to say that this is an exceptional lounge, but for a priority pass lounge, it isn’t bad at all. With a decent food selection, a more than decent wine selection, fantastic service, and in-seat power at every seat in the relaxing area, I had a pleasant time here. Just make sure to check that you’re not flying on the same day as the Munich flight as well, as the hour before boarding might be a little hectic 😉.
