Quick Review: Yotel Singapore Changi Airport. Is It The Best Transit Hotel?
Intro
Even though I have recently written a full detailed review of the Yotel in Singapore Changi, I wanted to add another quick write-up about this specific hotel, as I had another pleasant stay after my inbound flight on the Singapore Airlines max 9 in Business Class.
With that being said, there are two main transit hotels in Changi. These are the Yotel and the Crown Plaza. Let's get into the reasons why I would pick the Yotel over the Crown Plaza, as the prices are quite similar.
The Rooms
Hotels around the world are virtually quite similar these days. You know what to expect, as most of them will average out between 350 square feet and 550 square feet for a starter room.
At the Yotel, though, these are much smaller and are under 200 square feet. It almost reminds me of Singapore Airlines First Class on the A380.
The perks of staying at the Yotel:
It feels as close to flying in a plane as actually flying in a plane.
It's a different experience compared to a standard hotel.
Air conditioning works wonders within minutes due to the small room.
The bed is very comfortable.
The Yotel tends to have more last-minute availability.
Right in the Jewel with countless restaurants.
Now, the downsides of the Yotel versus the Crown Plaza:
This isn't for everyone.
The rooms are small and share a bathroom with the bedroom.
It is further away from the terminals than the Crown Plaza.
It can feel a bit weird converting your couch into a bed with a button like First Class.
The Ambiance
Another aspect of the hotel which I love is the ambiance of it. It feels futuristic and as if you are staying inside of a rocket ship or something similar. The color patterns are certainly unique and stood out to me when walking in and out of the hotel.
For those wondering, there is an amplitude of amenities on-site; well, that is minus a pool. The Yotel has a 24-hour fitness center, so if you are somebody who likes to get a pump in, this is ideal for you. On top of that, I have never seen someone in the fitness center in the three times I have stayed.
If you are looking to grab a quick shower, the Yotel in Changi offers that as well. No need to pay a rate for the night; just head to the front and ask to take a shower. I believe (don't quote me) the cost is around 25$ for a shower.
Final Thoughts
If you are someone who enjoys flying, and my guess is that you have since you read this blog, I would check out the Yotel in Singapore Changi the next time you have a short overnight layover. While at Crown Plaza, I would recommend it more for families, just in terms of space. For couples, that is a tough one. If you are the type of couple where you each need your alone time, perhaps the Crown Plaza might be a better fit. However, if you both love flying, the Yotel it is. Rates start at around 160$ USD per night.
Adding on to that with the 24 hour fitness center, and being so close to Shake Shack and the Jewel; staying at the Yotel certainly has its benefits and I fully enjoyed my multiple stays there.
