Qatar Airways Now Serving Caviar In Business Class
Intro
Shiver me, timbers; I was not expecting this to ever happen in Business Class. Qatar Airways already has one of the best business-class products in the world, featuring spacious seats, pajamas, and fantastic food. However, this product is about to get even better on certain routes, as Qatar will now add Caviar!
The Details
Starting August 15th, 2024, Qatar Airways will be adding caviar on thirteen select routes worldwide. Specifically, these routes will be from Doha to:
Boston
Dallas
Hong Kong
Houston
London
Los Angeles
Melbourne
New York
Paris
Sao Paulo
Singapore
Sydney
Washington
Qatar is quite unique in its concept of dining on demand. With the addition of caviar, this can be enjoyed with the traditional garnishes at any time during the flight. However, I would recommend placing this order as soon as possible when on board since my guess is they won't be loading enough for every passenger.
Qatar Is In Its Own League
Qatar Airways already offers one of the best business-class products, if not the best. With the addition of their new Q-Suites plus the caviar, they are taking business class to the next level.
Emirates is beginning to revamp its 777 business-class product, but it still does not match what Qatar or any other Gulf carrier can offer.
My Thoughts
From what I can see, Qatar is attempting to become the world's best airline and monopolize the market. If Qatar can begin to attract customers who usually fly Singapore Airlines, Emirates, Etihad, etc., and bring them over to Qatar, it will increase revenue and profit hugely.
The one interesting thing that I found regarding this addition is some of the routes. The two that stand out to me are Washington, DC, and Boston. The other markets seem to have high business yields and, therefore, are completely understood. However, with Boston and IAD, I suspect that Qatar is primarily doing this to go head-to-head with Emirates.
Final Thoughts
Qatar Airways will begin offering caviar service in a couple of days to 13 select destinations worldwide. These destinations range anywhere from Sydney to Los Angeles to Sao Paulo. Expect to see small tins (probably around 30g per person) and not enough to serve a whole cabin (QR always underloads cabins). However, this is a huge step for Qatar Airways and business class as a whole since airlines will have to repond.
