Qatar Airways 787-9 Business Class: Fantastic
Intro
It's very rare that I post an initial thought about an airline an hour after flying with them. For the record, I am currently 4.5 months behind on my initial thoughts and 9 months behind on reviews. However, I had the opportunity to fly with Qatar Airways today on their 787-9 in Business Class from Kathmandu to Doha, and I was extremely impressed. The different version of their "Q-Suite" was comfortable, and the service was some of the best I've ever had.
The Seat/Cabin
I get it; the Q-Suite is exceptional. However, I have to say, the new Qatar Airways Business Class seat on the 787-9 isn't too bad at all. Thankfully, on this flight, the cabin load was light, with only 13/30 people onboard. After takeoff, the cabin crew came around to close the doors, and the suite felt very private.
Oh, and don't even get me started on the bed. Very rarely do I take a nap on midday flights, but the lovely flight attendant from the Philippines offered to make up a bed in 7F to allow me to nap. The bed was wide and spacious, and one of the best I've experienced in the sky (not including the Q-Suite and the Room).
Meal Service/Overall Service
I've had some exceptional crews on some flights within the last few months, but the flight attendant working my aisle might have been the best of the best. Upon boarding, I informed her that I had a nut allergy and that I wouldn't be able to have some of the food. Due to some of the starters being off of the table, she came around with 9 slices of pita bread and 3 containers of hummus for me to enjoy.
It was more than just the food; here is what impressed me about her.
Upon boarding, she came around and thanked me for being Oneworld Emerald, as well as offering to show me around the seat.
She constantly came over to check on me, incase I needed anything.
She shared a little about her life and where she was from. She told me some cool stories about how every year, a volcano erupts near their home, but instead of panicking, they sit back, enjoying their coffee and watching.
Overall, she was the reason this flight was exceptional.
Ok, ok, I'm getting back to the food. Very rarely do I eat fish on a plane, but I decided to try out the salmon for a change. All in all, a delicious dish, and one that I highly recommend.
Final Thoughts
As I am sitting in the Al Safwa Lounge in Doha enjoying a delicious steak, I wanted to provide some feedback on an exceptional flight with Qatar Airways. The 787-9 might not have the Q-Suite, but it has a very good business-class product. If you happen to be flying it in the future, you are in for an absolute treat.
