Qantas Re-Routes Perth To London Flights With Stop In Singapore

Intro

Qantas has long been known to operate the longest 787 flight in the world from Perth to London, coming out at just over 9100 miles. Well, in the future, this flight will stop in Singapore.

Qantas Business Class

Let's get into it!

The Details

Qantas stretches the range of the 787. especially when flying westbound up to London due to headwinds. Even with a configuration featuring only 166 economy seats, the flight can still take over 18 hours to reach London😳.

Ordinarily, this flight will fly up between Africa and Asia and then head through the likes of Iran.

QF 9 Usual Route

Now, with the heightened conflict between Israel and Iran, airlines have taken precautions of not flying over the country and even canceling flights into those countries.

Interestingly, the flight operated yesterday nonstop from Perth to London at an air time of 17 hours and 6 minutes while skipping Iran. The issue is that winter is coming soon, and the headwinds get worse when flying West...

QF 9 Direct Route

Qantas will now add a stopover in Singapore on the outbound for this flight due to the fact that there is no leeway to go around Iran. They are already stretching the range of the 787-9...

Here is what the schedule looks like:

QF209 Perth to Singapore departing 2:10 pm and arriving at 8:00 pm

QF209 Singapore to London departing 9:45 pm arriving 5:05 AM (+1)

QF10 London to Perth departing 11:55 am and arriving 11:40 am (+1)

Think of this as the QF1 routing on the outbound, yet just from Perth. This stop makes it safer for everyone and allows QF209 to operate without any hitches.

QF1 Routing

Final Thoughts

Qantas will not operate their longest flight with a stop in Singapore due to unrest in the Middle East between Iran and Israel. Expect this to add quite a bit more time to your journey if you plan on flying this route soon.
