My Issue Getting An E-Visa To Myanmar

Intro

I'm currently knee-deep into a Southeast Asia trip, enjoying Laos, but I am attempting to visit Myanmar with a friend for New Year's Eve. Another one of my mates invited me out to Yangon to a party like none other, and I sought to the best of my ability to get an E-Visa in time, but I do not think it is going to work, sadly 🥴.

The Details

On paper, getting an E-Visa is relatively easy for the 100-odd countries that are able to do so. Most of the time, you head over to the website, type in your details, and it should be approved within 2-4 business working days. Unfortunately, when I went to submit my visa request on the 27th of December, I wasn't quite aware that the online operations had closed until January 2nd (my fault; I should have known).

So, seeing as I really want to be in Yangon, I reached out to the embassy through email in a last-ditch attempt. Somehow, they got back to me regarding my E-Visa on the 30th, and I was so excited to read the email but to find out that they had denied my visa.

Why? Because the hotel information I provided was a screenshot instead of a PDF. I completely understand if that detail was in the application, but it wasn't. The screenshot provided the booking confirmation, date of arrival/departure, and the name on the reservation...

Rough times

Anyways, as I sit having breakfast in Yangon, I am hopeful that my E-Visa gets approved this morning. Myanmar sounds like an amazing place to spend New Years at, so let's see how it goes.

If you are applying for an E-Visa: PDF Documents only!
