My Disrespectful Seatmate On Sri Lankan Airlines Business Class

Konrad Tillman

Intro

Before I begin, I would like to add that cultural norms change throughout the world, but in my opinion, this was still unbelievably disrespectful.

The other day, I happened to be flying from Colombo to Kathmandu in Sri Lankan Airlines Business Class onboard their A320. The day started quite pleasant as I found the lounge and staff to be quite pleasant. However, it quickly took a turn for the worse.

Bare Feet On My Seat?

As we pulled up to the remote stand on our bus, I happened to be the first passenger off of the second bus. It was a bit of a queue to get on board, but after a while, I made it to the top of the steps and looked over to 4F to see my seat occupied.

99% of the time, when I see someone in my seat, I simply head over and mention that they are in my seat, but as I was standing next to an FA, I decided to let them know. Heading over to my seat, I happened to notice that not only was this man in my seat, but he also had his bare feet up on my seat.

From my judgment of living in Bali (I could be very wrong), he looked like someone who was on a spiritual journey without a care in the world.

When the FA informed him to move, he made a bit of a fuss but ended up moving. I ended up sitting down in my original seat and mentioned, "Sir, you had you had your bare feet up on my seat", and his response was otherworldly.

"That's a f**king disaster, isn't it? F**k you".

Never in my wildest dreams would I expect someone to say that to me, and it shows that some people are truly disrespectful in this world. The one time I sat in someone else's seat by accident, I profusely apologized for doing so.

My gosh
My gosh

I've flown 500 flights in the past 4 years and never once asked to move seats from someone else. However, after that comment, I did not want to sit next to the man. I politely informed the cabin crew what happened, and they tried to change, but unfortunately, it didn't work out. The cabin crew was lovely during this process, so I commend them for that.

THAT'S NOT ALL! This guy didn't follow any of the safety regulations during taxi either. As the plane was on the taxiway (moving) heading out to the runway, he got up for a solid two minutes, looking for the charger in his bag. To make matters worse, two cabin crew walked directly by him and didn't say a word.

In all honesty, the rest of the flight was fine, as I slept the whole way to Kathmandu until we were on approach. However, it's as the saying goes, "Money doesn't buy class."

Final Thoughts

The other day when flying Sri Lankan Airlines, I had quite a disrespectful seatmate in Business Class. I am actually curious how you would have handled this and if you would have addressed this with the cabin crew like myself. It all turned out all right in the end, but put a sour taste in my mouth for the flight.
