Intro
I am a strong and avid believer that most* dogs shouldn't be allowed on planes unless they are properly service dogs, and this is just another reason as to why I believe this to be the case.
The Details
A couple of days ago, on the afternoon of April 15th, an American Eagle flight operating as 4980 decided to divert due to a service dog biting a passenger onboard. The flight took off at 2:02 pm local time from Provo and had a very routine first hour until the decision was eventually made to divert to Colorado Springs due to this incident.

While details remain scarce about the whole incident, I really do hope the person is okay, as dog bites can be extremely frightening.
My Thoughts On Dogs On A Plane
There is a reason that I wrote lol in the title, and that is because there has been this shift surrounding "service dogs" in the US for quite a while now, and what classifies a service dog. Heck, when I asked a UA agent in LAX about the percentage of dogs that are service dogs, she said, "I would guess about 10%".
As a dog lover since birth, I lean towards the side that, unless someone truly needs a dog when flying, they shouldn't be on the plane for the reason of the dog. Nobody is probably more scared on the plane of flying than the dog itself, and I can imagine this can sometimes cause accidents such as this.
Final Thoughts
In the past, we have seen accidents from dogs happen on a plane, but an American Eagle flight decided to divert after a "service dog" bit a passenger mid-flight from Provo to New Mexico. An unfortunate situation all around,d and I hope the passenger is alright. Hopefully the skin isn't pierced, as rabies shots can be one heck of a round to get...
