ITA Airways Brings Back Alitalia Branding?

Intro

ITA Airways is actually one of my favorite carriers in Europe after flying them onboard their brand new A321neo. However, I thought this would be a cool article to write about, seeing as I am working on publishing my next report, which is on the ITA A330-200 in Business Class from Rome to New York. Guess what? That plane was operated by an ex-Alitalia aircraft...

Alitalia eventually went under during the pandemic. They had been losing money for years, and the government just wanted a fresh start or what some call a clean slate. Well, ITA took over the same planes, the same staff, and the same routes, but they finer-tuned the smaller details and took delivery of more fuel-efficient jets. ITA has now made a very interesting announcement regarding how they brand their company.

The Details

ITA has just announced that it will be altering its logo come year-end. Seeing as the government wanted a clean slate, I am not sure I quite understand this. The ITA Airways logo will remain similar, but they will add "inspired by Alitalia" in the background.

New ITA/Alitalia Logo

As quoted by the Chairman, the reasoning is, “We proudly presented the project to enhance the Alitalia brand, which will complement our identity logo ‘ITA Airways’ to reinforce its values of excellence in air transport, which are recognized worldwide.”

Intriguing...

Here is a quick view of my thoughts:

A long time ago, Alitalia was a decent carrier and one that was pretty well known. It was also Italy's flagship carrier for a vast number of years. In some ways, this is a cute touch that could potentially drive sales. However, if it was up to me, I certainly wouldn't include a failed airline in my logo😒.

Final Thoughts

In reminisce of the carrier Alitalia once was, ITA Airways will be adding a small but quaint detail to their logo, which features "inspired by Alitalia". Personally, I am not the biggest fan of this, but I understand why ITA has decided on this.
