It Finally Happened! Drunk Man Gets Kicked Off My Flight
Intro
Well, I have heard stories and stories of this happening but have yet to see it live. Well, the other week, I was flying Ethiopian Airlines from Victoria Falls-Gabarone-Addis Ababa, and somebody had a little too much to drink. What happened after might have been the funniest thing I've ever seen.
Before I begin, I just want to say that I understand people make mistakes, and stuff like this happens. I just hope he was able to sober up and is okay now. Not that I condone this behavior, but I think as a community, we have to learn to help instead of laugh at others: compassion.
What Happened
For those unaware, ET823 is a service that runs from Addis Ababa to Victoria Falls to Gabarone and then back to Addis Ababa. This man, flying from Addis Ababa to Gabarone, must have had too much to drink on the first leg to Victoria Falls, as he ended up getting in a heated argument with another passenger.
I did not see this, so I cannot confirm; it was just what the crew told me.
The police came onboard to escort him off the plane, where he eventually got into an argument right next to door 2L. The crew remained very calm during this situation and, in general, handled it very well. However, he really wanted to get to Botswana and started shouting, "f**k you a**hole," as he drunkenly fell down to the floor.
As I mentioned, the crew handled this with the utmost professionalism, and I hope the man got some rest.
My Thoughts
Alcohol can be a dangerous drink to have when flying. Sometimes, when you are in the air, you don't quite realize how much you have had or how empty your stomach is before you drink, and thus, only a couple of beers (for some people) will get them intoxicated. Everyone loves a good drink when flying, but just keep in mind that the consequences are much higher on a plane versus at home.
Final Thoughts
Last week, I was flying Ethiopian Airlines from Victoria Falls to Addis Ababa, and a man had too much to drink. Due to intoxication, he shouted some vulgar words at the crew and was removed from the flight. Be careful with alcohol, as the effects can creep up on you.
