Iran Air Banned To Europe?

Intro

Iran Air is facing certain circumstances that could prove troublesome for the future of the airline's operations in Europe. Well, Iran Air is facing multiple sanctions from a select group of European Countries, and it's not looking great.

Let's get into it!

The Details

Countries including France, Germany, The United States, and The United Kingdom have just imposed brand new sanctions on Iran Air. Of course, there have already been sanctions on Iran, but things have gotten worse. This is primarily due to Iran providing missiles to Russia for the war against Ukraine.

Iran Air A330

Currently, Iran Air serves a multitude of destinations around the world, but with sky-high prices in business class😒. These include the likes of London Heathrow, Paris, Milan, and Rome, to name a few. Between the years of 2010 and 2016, Iran Air faced similar sanctions until they were thankfully lifted in 2016.

Bilateral air service agreements are being pulled from the named countries, meaning that flights may not operate for the next while. It will be interesting to see whether Iran will cut ties with European Airlines as well, seeing as Lufthansa and Austrian fly to Tehran.

As of today, flights are still flying, although I expect them to begin disappearing within the coming week. As we know, with Venezuela, sanctions are taken very seriously.

My Thoughts

In an ideal world, politics and aviation wouldn't cross paths. While I don't condone what is going on in the world today, I don't think the passengers flying on Iran Air should have to suffer. Although I do understand why it is happening, I am certainly against a ban like this.

Iran Air 747 Business Class

It's a sad day when routes get cut, especially since I was planning to head over to Iran at the beginning of next year on my mission to visit every country in the world.

Final Thoughts

Iran Air has had new sanctions imposed on them for flying to The United States, The United Kingdom, France, and Germany, to name a few. With the likes of a bilateral air agreement in place, it will be interesting to see if Iran discontinues flights from Lufthansa and Austrian.
