Initial Thoughts: Thai Airways Business Class Hong Kong-Bangkok On The 777-300

A couple of days ago I had to get from Hong Kong to Bali and decided to route through Bangkok since why not? While I will have a full review coming soon, I have to say I was extremely impressed with what I found on this 2.5-hour flight.

Boarding was efficient:

I was pleasantly surprised to see the cabin empty tonight to Bangkok. I had selected seat 19A in the second cabin for this short hop. The second cabin was just me and one other person while the first cabin had 6 more seats occupied. For such a highly premium configured aircraft it was empty. We boarded at 7:50 (15 minutes early) for out 8:45 departure. Funnily enough, I was at gate 5 while BA32 was parked next door at gate 6 (my mother was on that plane). Champagne was offered on the ground.

The menu was decent for a short-haul flight:

I hadn't flown Thai business class on a sub 3-hour flight and found the menu to be fantastic, (if only this was offered in the US).

The cabin was still in decent shape:

The last time I flew the 777-300 in business class with Thai was in 2019 from Bangkok to London (I actually think this was the same plane if my records show correctly). However, I was surprised to see the cabin still in relatively good shape, props to TG for keeping it like this. The purple touch is very elegant, especially in the dimly lit cabin for night-time flights.

The food was fantastic:

I opted to have the braised beef cheek (similar to what I had on the 737-max SQ) and it was phenomenal. It also came out quickly which is perfect since I was beyond exhausted. The classic TG garlic bread was also served which is always a highlight.

The seat was more than adequate for such a short flight:

I don't know whether I was exhausted or this seat was comfortable but I slept straight after the meal until final approach into Bangkok. The bedding was a comfortable blanket and a couple of pillows I stole off of the empty seats. Side note having the tray table flip out is fantastic since it doesn't cramp your legs.

Final Thoughts:

I cannot fault Thai Airways on this sector at all (more on that in the next Initial Thought to Bali). The service was stellar, the food was perfect for a short flight, I was able to sleep for as long as humanly possible and champagne was served in a flute. Possibly the best short-haul flight I have taken on this trip.
