I Just Got Back From Libya 🇱🇾: Quick Recap
Intro
When I go dark from this blog, there is usually a reason for it. Additionally, when I tend to visit these so-called "high-risk" places, I tend not to talk too much about when it is going to happen for safety reasons.
Anyway, I just landed in Istanbul after spending some time in Tripoli, and my oh my, is it an exceptional place. Let me get into a little bit about my time in Libya, but keep in mind it will take me a hot minute to get through to the whole series.
Is It Safe?
The most frequent question I get asked is, "Is visiting Libya safe in 2025?". Before heading over, I was skeptical if it was safe or not, but I was blown away by truly how safe I felt during my stay. Unfortunately, I had two shadows following me (government protocol), but I would have felt safe walking around by myself during the day if I could have. Put it this way: I felt more nervous walking around Washington Heights than Tripoli.
The Beauty
There are some pretty damn beautiful places in the world, such as Bora Bora, the Seychelles, East Africa, and many more. However, I had no idea just how beautiful this country in Northern Africa would be. The ocean is some of the clearest I have ever seen in my life and apparently used to be even more clear a while ago. The UNESCO World Heritage sites are out of this world in terms of beauty, seeing less than a tourist per day.
The People
The last thing that really stood out to me about Libya was the people. The hospitality of Libya is exceptional, and as an American, I wasn't quite expecting it to be. Everywhere I went, people offered to let me join in anything, from dancing in a park for someone's graduation to playing football 2 hours before my flight 😂. The respect and care I was shown blew me out of the water, and I am extremely grateful.
Final Thoughts
Spending some time in Libya was one of the highlights of my life. From the second we were on approach into Tripoli, I could begin to understand how misunderstood this country is. The natural beauty, the people, and everything about Libya has my heart 🇱🇾❤️.
