Hoi An At Night: Lantern Boating, Food, And More
Intro
For the last extract of a trip to Vietnam, we will be touching on the town of Hoi An during the nighttime. Hoi An becomes vibrant at night, with tonnes of boats floating around, lighting candles, lots of bars, restaurants, and more.
Let's get into it!
The Town
Not only had it just turned New Year's, but the town is usually packed any time of the year. At night, lanterns are set out and lit out for visitors to enjoy and do their shopping. On the topic of shopping, most of the tailors close around 8 pm in Hoi An.
However, most of the other shops will stay open as late as 10p pm- 12 am. This includes one of the oldest buildings in Hoi An!
If you happen to be in the area at night, check out the old house of Tan Ky (pictured above). It costs a couple of bucks to get in, but it is a mesmerizing place with a restaurant as well!
Another recommendation, if you've had enough of Vietnamese food, is they have a really good grab-and-go Detroit-style pizza place on the strip😅. I know Vietnamese food is incredible, but sometimes it's good to mix it up.
Boating & Candle Lighting
During our night out in Hoi An, our guide, Quy, accompanied us (an amazing person with whom I am happy to connect you). He led us to the riverbank, where there was a long queue waiting to board boats. Boats cost about 10$ per person for a 10-minute ride. Be sure to buy a lantern from one of the street vendors before boarding.
Upon completing a lap of the river and lighting our lantern, we headed back to the riverbank so the captain could take his next customers. It's customer after customer here, so prepare for that.
Final Thoughts
If you planning a trip to Hoi An, make sure you go out one night and enjoy a night filled with dancing, drinking, and lantern lighting on a traditional boat. I promise you, you will not regret this experience!
