Hawaiian Airlines Adds 787 To New York JFK
Intro
For East Coast-based travelers planning on visiting Hawaii soon, there is an exciting development for you all. Throughout the past few months, Hawaiian Airlines has delivered two Boeing 787-9 dreamliners, which have been operating on relatively short routes to Phoenix and Los Angeles, to name a few.
The Details
There are some seriously long domestic flights in the USA, and one of the longest direct flights is the Honolulu to New York route. In the past, the airline has traditionally flown the A330 on this route, but between April 22nd and August 20th, Hawaiian Airlines has added the 787 for this route. The details are as follows:
HA50: Honolulu-New York departing 3:35 PM arriving 6:55 AM (+1 day)
HA51: New York-Honolulu departing 9:05 AM arriving 1:55 PM
For pointy-end travelers, this will represent a significant upgrade when it comes to this almost 5,000-mile flight. However, those in economy, might be a tad disappointed.
Hawaiian Airlines has always been a leisure airline and thus operated their long haul premium product in a 2-2-2 configuration. However, with their new 787s, every passenger will now have direct aisle access and much more privacy.
When it comes to economy, Hawaiian Airlines operated their A330s with a 2-4-2 configuration, allowing couples to be seated together without someone else. However, the 787-9 switches the economy to a 3-3-3 configuration, which might be better for certain families, but as a whole, not so much.
Final Thoughts
Hawaiian Airlines has decided to add the newest member of its fleet to its second-longest domestic flight. Passengers flying from Honolulu to New York from the months of April to August will be treated to a sleek and modern Dreamliner cabin. With that being said, there is still no WIFI yet onboard the 787s (let's hope that changes).
