Genius: Gamble On Your Luggage With A Roulette Luggage Belt In Venice

Intro

Over the years, we have seen some pretty cool additions to airports, such as a golf simulator in Denver and a swimming pool in Doha. However, I think the Venice Marco Polo Airport might just take the cake here for the best and smartest thing I have seen at an airport.

The Details

Waiting for bags is a pain, there is no two-way about it. However, at the Venice airport in Italy, you can now gamble on which tile your bag is going to come out on. The Venetian Casino launched a collaboration and set up a roulette luggage belt, meaning that travelers have something to look forward to when waiting for their bags. Whether you are feeling lucky and want to bet on the number 0, or feeling more cautious and are thinking about just sticking with black, it's a great way to pass the time.

While I don't think gambling for money on this is actually a thing yet, it's interesting to note that the casino reported a 60% increase in visits since this new luggage belt was released. What a genius marketing campaign.

Why Hasn't Vegas Done This?

Seeing how successful this has been for Venice, it got me thinking: why hasn't Vegas implemented something like this at Harry Reid? Imagine tens of thousands of travelers land every day in Las Vegas, many of them wanting to gamble, and this could be a way to monetize gambling in an airport. Sure, they might have to figure out some of the legalities, but this could be a profitable business.

What do you think?

Final Thoughts

Around 6 months ago, the Marco Polo airport in Venice released a genius collaboration with the Venetian Casino, where passengers can bet on which tile their luggage will land on the belt. Usually, airports and waiting for luggage are quite boring, but I might just check my luggage next time I am in Venice to experience this...
