Finally: Thai Airways Re-Launching Premium Economy
Intro
Over the past several years, we have seen airlines that don't have premium economy products beginning to dip their toes into the market. For example, take a look at Emirates and how they have brought a splendid A380 premium economy seat to the market.
Well, the latest airline to do this is Thai Airways. As of now, there is no timelines for when this will be complete, but this is exciting nonetheless, especially since it is my favorite airline.
The Details
Thai Airways has recently announced that it plans to renovate the majority of its widebody fleet with premium economy. The airline currently has 17 777-300ERS, all of which should be renovated. 3 of these jets feature a first-class cabin, and 14 do not.
Additionally, we should see future 787 dreamliners be delivered with a premium economy product once Boeing begins delivering them in 2027. I would also expect all new business class/economy class seats...
At the moment, there are virtually no details when it comes to what this product will look like or the exact timeline for when Thai Airways will start selling this new cabin.
Interestingly, Thai Airways used to operate a fleet of A340-500s, which would serve the likes of Los Angeles with a premium economy product...
My Thoughts
Thai Airways remains my favorite airline in the world due to its soft products. There is no other airline in the world that can outclass Thai hospitality, and that is no debate. I love how far Thai Airways has come, especially considering the state they were in back in 2020. This premium economy product is going to be great not only for customers but also for the airline as it aims to become a competitive airline again in SE Asia.
Final Thoughts
Thai Airways is the next airline to announce that they will be bringing premium economy to the majority of their long-haul fleet. While the older aircraft such as the A330s and 777-200s won't be getting it, expect to see newly delivered 787s and the older 777-300s receive this product starting in 2027.
