Intro
For a long time, I have always had issues with food, which have further been exasperated by my allergy to nuts. Well, walking along the streets of Kabul, I found out that Afghan cuisine isn’t exactly the most friendly towards cross-contamination (I sound like a b*tch I know, I hate my allergies so much) and thus, I decided to eat a “foreigner restaurant”.
The Experience
Walking from the hotel along the streets of Kabul, my guide showed me to a place that looked like a jewelry store. However, stepping inside the jewelry store, there was a magnificent restaurant that lay in the back.

It was so intriguing to find a restaurant so tucked away that I decided to ask my guide why this was the case. He informed me that many tourists and foreign businessmen come here to eat, and it is tucked away due to security reasons.
Interesting
Well, let’s just say, it was all delicious. The food at this place was not only good but there was more flavor than what I would traditionally experience in neighboring countries. Oh, how I wish I could have tried Afghan cuisine. 4$ for a chicken breast, rice, french fries, and a salad at one of the best restaurants in Kabul? Sign me up!

To add on, it was interesting to see that the Hazara people were running the restaurant, and not dressed in traditional clothing (more western). They were extremely nice to me the whole time and showcased the amazing Afghan hospitality.
It was so good, and it felt like a safe place for me to eat, that I ended up returning for 3 meals to this spot.
Final Thoughts
If you are looking for a place to eat in Kabul that is more geared towards foreigners, find yourself a local guide. With no data in the country, I had no idea where this restaurant was located (minus being next to a Taliban checkpoint). However, if you can find one of these concealed places, the food and ambiance is just perfect!
