Coconut Boating In Hoi An, Vietnam

Intro

If you happen to be heading to Vietnam, I have already provided a couple of recommendations, such as shopping in Hoi An or playing Football. However, there is another must-do: the iconic coconut boating in Hoi An!

What an incredible experience that will help you embrace the Vietnamese culture.

Let's get into it!

Location+Price

Since I haven't informed you yet, the best way to get around Hoi An is with Grab if you don't have a driver. It's cheap, efficient, and has friendly drivers. When you go to Grab, put in the coconut boating place you are planning to go to. All of the places are about 10-15 minutes away from Hoi An.

Prices range, but for Vietnam is definitely on the higher side. A short 20-minute ride set us back 15$ per boat. However, if you plan to go around for about an hour, it'll cost about 25$ per boat. Still very reasonable in comparison to the rest of the world!

The Experience

Once getting on the boat, I was a tad nervous after seeing the videos of them swirling. Okay, seriously, it's not much like the videos. We opted to go for a quick 5-minute paddle to the place where they do the "swirling." If you don't want to paddle, don't worry; they paddle for you😂.

Yes, they even let you borrow the hat for free!

When they begin swirling you, it will start slowly. I recommend informing your guide that you would like to go faster as it feels a bit dull if you don't (just my opinion, though). It sort of feels like you have hit the cross-wake of someone else's boat.

What a truly incredible experience. I cannot recommend it enough if you happen to be in the area. Wow.

Final Thoughts

If you happen to be in the Hoi An area, grab a grab (see what I did there), and head over to do a quick coconut boat. Trust me, you won't regret it. Swirling around in these boats and laughing with Vietnamese people might be the highlight of your trip!
