Clubbing In Dakar, Senegal: How I Blacked Out🇸🇳💀
Intro
My plan for this one-night stay in Dakar was simple. I was going to land, take a taxi into the city, check in to my Airbnb, see some sights, and go for a drink. However, for the better, plans in Africa always seem to change (which I love) constantly.
Once I finished watching the Champions League Final, I headed back to my Airbnb and checked in. With no hot water, I took a cold shower, changed clothes, and was on my way to the BOMA lifestyle hotel.
A Drink Turned Into Waking Up The Next Day
Honestly, I knew nothing about Dakar or the best places to go out. I stumbled upon a place called Boma Lifestyle Hotel, which was moments away from where I was staying. It had a bar. When I got there, it was relatively early, probably around 9 pm. The bar had a DJ, and the bartenders were handcrafting perfect cocktails for customers.
Just as I was about to leave for an early night to rest for Mauritania, this local guy started chatting with me. We started talking about life and such until he informed me that the club was opening in about 20 minutes.
The issue that arose was that I wasn't dressed for clubbing. I was wearing a boxing T-shirt, a pair of shorts and slides...
He said that it was no problem since he knew people there. So, we entered.
The Senegalese are really nice people.
I have had a lot of fun nights out in my youthful life, but I rarely go clubbing anymore (becoming old). This was the most fun I have ever had on a night out, even though it wasn't planned, nor was I wearing the right clothing😂.
As the music blasted through the night, not a single soul had their phone out in sight. It didn't matter who had a table or where that person was from; it was everybody having a fantastic time. People hitting the griddy, people hitting the woo and jumping up and down to give me everything tonight (Pitbull).
I've done well-known party places such as Beefa and Mykonos, but Dakar is on a level of its own. If you want to have a good night out and don't care about ego, this is the place to do it.
Somehow, I must have gone home around 3:00 am (there is a video on my phone), and managed to figure out where the Airbnb was this time😂.
Sure, it was a good time, but the next morning felt the other way. Find out in the trip report of Air Senegal being posted tomorrow😅.
Final Thoughts
If you are in Dakar and looking for a place to go clubbing, look no further than the BOMA lifestyle hotel. However, be aware that the club section is only open on Fridays and Saturdays, but the bar is open every day. I had the time of my life, and I was reminded that clubbing is all about having fun with each other instead of comparing egos. A night I will never forget, although, part of it I already have🤣.
