Intro
As many of us around the world know, there is currently a relatively high degree of tension between the United States and China. While I won't be discussing the politics, I will be discussing how this is affecting China Southern in what was supposed to be the revolutionizing of their fleet.
The Details
China Southern operates an extremely large fleet of well over 600 aircraft, and in that, the airline operates 10 787- 8s. Well, two weeks ago, the airline put up these 787-8s for sale in hopes of gaining at least 50 million dollars per aircraft, in hopes to modernize these birds that were beginning to show some age.
Well, with trade tensions getting ever worse over the past few months, it seems that China Southern has decided to halt the sale of the Boeing 787-8s for now, as they were planning to purchase new aircraft to make up for the loss. However, with the tariffs and relations, it makes no point buying new aircraft now...

But China Southern isn't the only airline suffering issues...
An Ongoing Trend
War is bad for business (most businesses), and with this ongoing tariff war, we are seeing airlines take a major hit. Delta even went as far as to say they wouldn't be taking any Airbus deliveries due to the 10% tax from European nations.
However, taking it a step further, as someone who loves traveling to adventurous places. Can you imagine what countries such as Libya, Afghanistan, and more have had to face aviation-wise for quite a while now? Paying a premium for a brand new plane isn't ideal, but not being able to get new parts for planes is next level.
Final Thoughts
China Southern had plans to sell their ten 787- 8s for around 50 million per piece. However, due to the ongoing tariff war, it seems that the airline has decided to backtrack on this decision for now due to how much it would cost to replace them (Boeing is located in the USA).
