British Airways Ending Dallas Flights: A Sad Day

Konrad Tillman

Intro

British Airways has long served its Oneworld partner hub at Dallas Fort Worth for many years, to the point where they have occasionally deployed their largest jet on the route. However, this will be changing soon, as British Airways has decided to cancel their once-daily flight...

The Details

There is more to unpack than what meets the eye here, but for starters, let's begin with the route history.

British Airways has consistently operated its service from London Heathrow to Dallas Fort Worth, utilizing a 777-300ER or an A380-800 in the past few years. The size of the hub that AA operates means that British Airways could funnel traffic, thanks to the joint transatlantic venture.

Up until March 29th, 2025, we can see that British Airways operates 1x daily service, and American Airlines operates 4x daily service between the two cities.

Current OW Schedule DFW-LHR

However, in recent developments, British Airways has decided to discontinue flights during the summer season. Originally, BA planned to downgrade this route from an A380 to an A350 but has backtracked and pulled out of the market. Only time will tell if this will stay around or if this is solely for the summer season.

Future OW Schedule DFW-LHR

With that being said, American Airlines has added an additional 777-300ER on this route, meaning they will serve DFW-LHR with 4x daily 777-300ER and 1x daily 777-200ER.

My Thoughts

While I don't like it, and I'm assuming English businessmen might be a little upset, this makes a lot of sense. American Airlines planned to retrofit its 777-300 fleet in 2025, but it seems that this will be pushed back until later due to manufacturing delays. Unlike American, British Airways actually offers a global network where it matters where they send their long haul networks😉.

I really like American Airlines, but their long-haul network is shambolic.

This represents a monopoly in the American Airlines market and a huge downgrade for passengers. Comparing the likes of British Airways First Class to American Airlines First Class is night and day.

Final Thoughts

British Airways will be pulling out of the Dallas Fort Worth market for the summer of 2025. As of now, it seems that this might just be temporary due to high travel demand in the summers, but perhaps it might stick around. American Airlines has picked up the slack by adding a 5th daily flight between the cities. The only good aspect for consumers is that I would imagine there should be daily premium saver space between the two cities.
