Boxing In Cairo, Egypt: What An Adventure
Intro
During my one-night stay in Cairo, I had the privilege of visiting the Pyramids, relaxing at the Fairmont, and doing one of my favorite activities: boxing. As I travel around the world, one of the most important things to me is doing physical exercise. This is primarily to reduce the "bloated" feeling, especially when flying as much as I do.
Anyway, I got in contact with a guy I found online who runs a boxing gym, well, sort of. We set up a session on the outskirts of Cairo at a beautiful gym, all for 800 Egyptian Pounds. What a bargain🙂, at least compared to US prices.
The Session
Another couple of words to the wise when traveling Cairo: I would not recommend taking Uber Bike unless you have cash, as the drivers seem to cancel. It was a bit of a drive to the outskirts across the bridge (I say the outskirts, primarily due to it being out of the main city and a place I have never been) to get there.
Traffic lights are so cool here; I wish more countries had this system.
Once I arrived, I found my way to the top floor of the gym, which happened to be the outdoor workout area. The guy I met was wonderful (if you need his contact), and we had a lovely hour-long boxing session.
Something about boxing, overlooking the Cairo Skyline from one direction and the Pyramids from another, there is nothing quite like it😳.
Once we finished up, I walked around the area a little bit to soak in the sunset. People keep telling me that "Egypt is dangerous, I would never go back," etc. In my controversial opinion, Egypt is not dangerous at all if you carry yourself with confidence. In fact, Egypt is quite the opposite, as you'll read about in my review of the Fairmont shortly.
Final Thoughts
If you happen to be heading to Cairo on vacation, I cannot recommend a boxing class overlooking the Pyramids of Giza. It is a moment that you will never forget, with fantastic coaches, incredible scenery, and a place of relaxation.
