Booked!!! I'm Going To Cuba!!!
Ever since I was a kid I wanted to go to Cuba, and dreamed of it. I always saw the pictures with the cool cars and was obsessed with Pirates. Add on to the fact I love rum now, Cuba is a perfect destination for me to go to.
So What's The Plan
I was originally hesitant to book this weekend's adventure as I have a midterm on Monday afternoon. However, I was able to find some flight prices that were too good to pass up.
I will head out after class on Wednesday, with another brutal redeye to Miami. Once I am in Miami on Thursday morning, I have a little over 2 hours on the ground before boarding to Havana.
I will be able to review the A321neo in the economy class as well as the A319 in the economy class, the latter I have never flown with American Airlines.
The total price for this one-way segment came to 277$ in economy. This isn't the one that was a huge steal but it represents an okay value.
Return Flight
The return flight is where I found a price that I couldn't believe existed, while I will break it all down in another post, I'll share the itinerary here.
All three of these flights came out to 478$ in business class... How is this possible? Although I might try and change the JFK-LAX to the day after once I land as a night in New York would be lovely.
Activities In Cuba
While the flights are all sorted out, now I have to figure out what I need to do in terms of where I need to stay/where I can stay and activities. As I am traveling in support of the Cuban people I thought about staying in a casa particular or an Airbnb. I probably should book it shortly but we'll see. There are some fantastic deals for accommodation.
Yes, I fully well know that I can be a tourist a lot of the time. Since I want to ride around Cuba smoking a Cuban cigar in one of those vintage cars, I don't mind being a tourist. Look at how cool they are!
Salsa Lessons
When I was living in Bali, there was a time I began doing Salsa and Tango lessons. I thought this would be a great thing to do one time when I am in Havana. I see online that private lessons sit around 20 USD per hour which is not a horrible price at all.
But most of all... I am excited to sit on the beach on a Friday afternoon and drink some Cuban Rum. I adore Caribbean rum and have yet to try Cuban Rum, excited is an understatement.
Final Thoughts
While there are a couple of things to get in order regarding tourism cards and a phone with a physical sim I am beyond excited to have the privilege of visiting this country. With the good flight deal, I found on the way back to riding around a vintage car in Cuba. These are going to be 3 days I will remember forever!
