Bermudair Adds More Flights To The East Coast Of The USA
Intro
Bermuda is a beautiful little country located in the East of the United States, and it has one of the greatest party cultures I have ever seen. However, what they have lacked for years as an island is a national carrier. Typically, the likes of British Airways, American Airlines, Jetblue, and Delta (to name a few) fly to Bermuda, but Bermudair happened to launch last year.
Well, we are now seeing some tremendous growth with the airline, as they have just announced that they will be adding service from Bermuda to Charleston, Hartford, and Raleigh-Durham.
The Details
Bermudair is an airline that operates a fleet of two Embraer E175s. Considering the destinations they serve out of Bermuda, having only two aircraft is a mess in itself. I digress; Bermudair plans to add these routes next spring with the following schedule:
As of April 19th, 2025, Bermudair will fly from Bermuda to Charleston 1x weekly with the following schedule:
2T622 Bermuda to Charleston departing 3:15 PM arriving 4:45 PM
2T623 Charleston to Bermuda departing 5:45 PM arriving 8:55 PM
As of April 3rd, 2025, Bermudair will fly from Bermuda to Hartford 2x weekly with the following schedule:
2T431 Bermuda to Hartford departing 4:00 PM arriving 5:05 PM
2T432 Hartford to Bermuda departing 6:20 PM arriving 9:20 PM
As of April 11th, 2025, Bermudair will fly from Bermuda to Raleigh-Durham 2x weekly with the following schedule:
2T951- Bermuda to Raleigh departing 8:30 AM arriving 9:35 AM
2T952- Raleigh to Bermuda departing 10:35 AM arriving 1:40 PM
My Thoughts
I'm conflicted on this one. On one hand, I love that Bermudair is growing and growing their route network. To think just 18 months ago, they took delivery of their first Embraer E175 and now serve countless destinations on the East Coast.
On the other hand, I wonder if their business model is actually profitable. Considering a lot of these routes they fly are not served daily, it creates gaps in the market which could put off passengers. From a consumer standpoint, would you rather fly with an American airline that flies to Bermuda daily in case of Irops? I certainly would if I were on a time crunch.
My other issue with Bermudair is that they need to grow their fleet. What happens when an aircraft is in need of a C check and gets pulled from service for an extended period? Sure, they could rent a plane, but is this economical? If Bermudair wants to succeed, I would love to see them grow their fleet by another 2-3 aircraft.
I'd love to get an inside look into the airline's profit margins.
It wasn't long ago that Bermudair decided that they wanted to have an all-business class cabin. Although, I am not sure if this would have ever worked...
Final Thoughts
Bermudair has just announced three new routes from the main airport in Bermuda to Raleigh-Durham, Hartford, and Charleston. While these are remote destinations, it will be interesting to see if the airline manages to turn a profit on these routes. One thing is for certain: they will have a monopoly in the direct market for all three locations.
