Avianca Expanding In Florida, Adding 4x Weekly Tampa Service
Intro
Avianca, the second largest carrier in South America after Latam, has just announced its latest route expansion into the US market. With the pure diversity in Florida and the large Hispanic population, this route addition makes a lot of sense.
The Details
Beginning March 30th, 2025, Avianca will launch a 4x weekly service from Bogota to Tampa with an A320. As we found out recently, Avianca has brought back business class onto their narrowbody fleet, so this route will presumably feature 12 business class seats and 168 economy seats ("business class" review here).
While the route currently isn't on sale yet, expect the flight time to be right around 3.5 hours, with a block time of 4 hours.
My Thoughts
Avianca has been all over the place in the last few years, changing from a full-service airline to an LCC and then attempting to go back to a full-service airline. The only suprise from this route is that it hasn't come sooner. This is a route that I could eventually see being upgraded to daily over the next year.
Avianca certainly isn't the best airline in the world, but they do the job of getting passengers from point A to point B. In addition, they will also be able to offer passengers the first direct flight from Tampa to Bogota (in fact, the first direct flight from Tampa to South America). My guess is that they will charge astronomical fares as the airline tends to do on the markets they monopolize.
Final Thoughts
Avianca has just announced that they plan to launch a 4x weekly service from Bogota to Tampa. Considering that this will be the sole South America-Tampa route, I would imagine that this route has considerable potential. Expect to see the flights on sale soon!
