Arajet Launching Newark-Santo Domingo Route
Intro
Back in September 2022, low-cost carrier Arajet began operations operating out of Santo Domingo airport. As the airline has vastly grown, operating routes as far-reaching as Argentina, the low-cost carrier has announced its first United States flight as it plans to fly to Newark.
The Details
Beginning June 16th, Arajet will be launching 4x weekly flights from Santo Domingo to Newark Liberty International Airport utilizing a 737 Max 8, featuring 189 economy seats laid out in a 3-3 configuration. The flight is scheduled to operate on Mondays, Wednesdays, Fridays, and Sundays with the following schedule:
DM2311: Newark (EWR)- Santo Domingo (SDQ) departing 12:00 pm and arriving 4:30 pm
DM2130: Santo Domingo (SDQ)- Newark (EWR) departing 6:18 am and arriving 10:30 am

How Are The Fares?
Santo Domingo has long been a competitive route for airlines from the USA, with Jetblue serving SDQ 7x daily, United 2x daily, and Delta 3x daily from the New York tri-state area. This means that fares are considerably lower than other destinations in the area (like Guyana) and tend to sit around 300$ roundtrip.
Well, Arajet informed the media that their fares start** at 246$, but this is for the most basic economy package. On most dates I am looking at the price between Arajet and the US carriers are around about the same. It makes me wonder whether this route will work as there is already so much demand 🤔.

Final Thoughts
Arajet is soon to become the first non-US airline to operate the Santo Domingo-New York Tri-State area route. As of June 16th, Arajet will fly 4x weekly from Santo Domingo to Newark featuring a 737 Max 8. This is an exciting development for the airline and will hopefully add even more competition on this route!
