American Airlines Breaks Down On Christmas Eve Day
Intro
Oof, this year and in the past few years, we have seen some horrendous breakdowns across airlines. However, perhaps the worst time of year for it to happen is around the holiday season, and it happened!
The Details
At approximately 7 am EST on Christmas Eve day, American Airlines suffered a technological issue due to their vendor. The issue lasted around about an hour before the 600 flights affected began resuming. Based on the data that we have, Dallas Fort Worth was the most affected airport (207 flights), while Charlotte came in second (168 flights). Other airports affected consisted of Philadelphia, New York, Chicago, Los Angeles, Phoenix, and Boston, but to a lesser extent.
My Thoughts
If you happened to be traveling during Christmas Eve Day with American Airlines and were affected, my apologies to you since I understand how much of a pain this could be. Unfortunately, things like this happen occasionally, and there really isn't much airlines can do about it. We recently saw a huge collapse during the summer of Delta that took weeks for the airline to fully recover.
However, props to American Airlines in some regard here, as it seems like the airline did everything that it could to help passengers get on their way home. I was reading a Reddit post from the AA sub and saw a certain individual manage to get on a flight with standby after their original was canceled. While it's obviously tough, it is sometimes just part of traveling, sadly.
Final Thoughts
Unfortunately, American Airlines had a slight operational vendor on Christmas Eve Day due to a vendor issue. While over 600 flights have been impacted, the airline did its best to try and accommodate. It sucks, but it's one of those things that sometimes happens when traveling.
Gosh, I am not looking forward to flying tomorrow. The holiday period is the worst.
