Intro
Aeroplan has long been one of my favorite programs when booking complicated around-the-world itineraries (such as my latest flight on Thai Airways). Historically, it has been easy to search for awards without having to log in to your account, but this has now changed...
The Details
In the past few years, we have seen multiple websites come out with search tools to look for mileage space on flights (such as seats.aero). However, if you are old school like me, and like up-to-date information, you tend to go towards searching for inventory through a program such as Flying Blue, United, or Aeroplan (as examples).
In the past, this used to be a relatively easy process, as you could do it on the app or online and pull up inventory within minutes without logging in. While this is something small, customers looking to search for mileage space will now have to log in to their account first.

My Quick Thoughts
Okay, I totally get that this is a minor issue as it takes no more than 5 seconds to confirm the two-factor authentication, but it seems to be an ongoing trend. I remember back in the day when you could check availability through Virgin Atlantic without logging in, and now you have to.
However, I also understand where Aeroplan is coming from by adding this. As I spoke about, there are tools that make it easier to search for mileage space, and this will somewhat help block those (in some regard). To me, I like the concept, but I wish there was a way to do it without hurting the people who just love to search for award space through the actual Website...
Final Thoughts
Aeroplan has just implemented a log-in feature when it comes to searching for award space. In the past, anyone was able to search for mileage space through Aeroplan, even if they didn't have an account, but going forward this isn't the case anymore. While mildly frustrating, I also understand it...
