A Quick Drive From Peshawar To Islamabad Airport

Intro

Ahh, these are the moments that travel is made of. Remember how I met those few friends inside the Afghanistan embassy? Well, as it would turn out, they also wanted to join me over to Islamabad Airport.

After booking all of my flights back at the Shelton’s Rezidor, and writing the review of the Air China A330 Business Class, it was soon time to embark back over to Islamabad Airport.

For those looking to get from Peshawar to Islamabad, a private car runs you about 6000 PKR and a shared shuttle about 1000 PKR.

The Experience

With my new scheduled departure on Fly Jinnah from Islamabad to Sharjah scheduled for 8:15 pm, I decided that leaving around 2 pm would be the best idea in case of any issues/traffic.

With my newfound friends arriving outside of the hotel, and the policemen/military (some are police, some are military), it was time to get on the road. The police insisted on driving us all the way to Islamabad, but we came to an agreement that they would stop once we left Peshawar.

And that they did, as 30 minutes later, we were finally free to speed down the motorway at 160 km/hr.

o the journey, our first stop came about. If there is one thing you need to know about me, is that I have a very weak bladder lol. We ended up stopping at some service station and paid 70 PKR to use the “VIP Bathroom” which actually had hot water. I mean can you believe that? A service station has hot water but not the hotel…

I digress, a Pepsi in hand a bag of mini Oreos, we were on our way for the remaining 1.5 hours of the journey. I had a lovely man by the name of Amjut who took us on the drive and we talked and talked and talked for the whole way there while my new friends slept. Having a good conversation with someone turns a long drive into a fun road trip. Next time I come, I am going everywhere with Amjut!

While on the way, I decided to track my upcoming flight and found that the aircraft would be taking off soon from Karachi. Fantastic, or so I thought. As it would turn out, this aircraft was also the same aircraft that had a de-pressurization issue not too long ago. I guess that means maintenance did a full sweep right? RIGHT>>>?

By 4:30 pm (ish) we arrived at the airport and prepared to part ways. Amjut was such a kind gentleman and helped out my friends who were attempting to book a flight, while I headed off to go deal with Low Cost Carrier Check-In (more on that next)…

Final Thoughts

Sometimes long drives can feel like a bit of a drag, especially when you are tired. However, with Amjut driving us from Peshawar to Islamabad Airport, the only thing that I wish was that the drive was longer. He is such a nice gentleman and is actually married to a woman from the USA. If you need his contact details, feel free to reach out!
