A Celebratory Birthday Flight Onboard United Airlines
Intro
As I mentioned previously, I was planning to live blog my Ukraine trip this week. However, due to a serious lack of sleep, I have not been able to do so. Instead, I'll now be blogging it, but just from five days behind!
For this series of blogs, I'll just be sharing quick looks while still resuming with the Africa series in separate posts. Eventually, I will get around to this trip in greater depth🙂.
UA LAX-LHR
To start off, my oh my, was it the perfect flight onboard United Airlines from Los Angeles to London Heathrow? One of the flight attendants had a birthday, and we celebrated nonstop by putting up decorations across the cabin.
As you can come to expect with United, the Polaris Lounge was exceptional in every regard. I have briefly reviewed it on this page but will be getting into a more detailed review shortly. My plan was to eat and shower in the lounge and then head straight to bed, but that didn't work out well, as you'll find out😅.
The food: wow!
Well, life wouldn't be any fun if I didn't get stopped by immigration when leaving the country. I got called to the gate thinking I had been downgraded, but the US immigration officers thoroughly checked me and got a statement from me on what I was doing (more on that in a future post)...
Once onboard, my luck changed. I managed to snag a seat for 80K UA Miles at 5 am that morning, departing that evening. The cabin went out 46/48, but everyone was pretty much asleep the whole time. Additionally, I gotta say, the Polaris bedding was unbelievably comfortable🙃.
Of course, would this really be my blog if I didn't visit the cockpit? I chatted with the flight deck for a while, and they even gave me a master departure log for our flight tonight out of LAX!
From the moment I was greeted, I knew this was going to be a lovely flight. Suzanne was looking after me and could not have been kinder.
As the night progressed and the passengers fell asleep, I got chatting with Kim (birthday girl), Suzanne, and Desiree. It was fun. I helped put up decorations, and all in all, I just had a fun time laughing and chatting.
Eventually, it was time for bed. I should have gone to sleep when we were 10 hours from London, but instead, I managed about 4 hours of rest 🤦♂️. This would come back to kiss me in the arse later, trust me.
Somehow, I awoke from my slumber as we were on our final descent into London. That meant I missed out on the mediocre coffee that United offers😉. However, once I landed, that wasn't a problem since United operates a decent arrivals lounge at Heathrow. I have to say, having my suit pressed was a lovely touch.
Final Thoughts
What a lovely time on United Airlines from Los Angeles to London Heathrow. Sure, I didn't get a lot of sleep, but I enjoyed all of my conversations with the flight attendants, and helping set up someone's birthday decorations on a plane is certainly a first. The service was great, I had my favorite seat, the food was decent, the flight deck was awesome, and everything was just perfect. Stay tuned for a full review in the future!
